What Opportunities Wearable Products Will Bring To IC Industry

Thursday,Sep 11,2014

Everything around us is evolving. Back in the 1980’s, the telephone was the only convenient means of communication. Then in the 1990’s came the pager, which may be considered as among the first mobile telecommunications devices. Today, we enjoy the convenience of the cellphone and then the smartphone, which everyone carries, even small kids. Could you imagine what would be next in this line of technology?

Believe it or not, wearable products are now a focus of developers and designers. And by saying wearable, this means that certain products are made in such a way that they can be worn by the user while being able to serve their purpose. From clothes to accessories and to technology, wearable products are becoming more popular.

What Are The Wearable Opportunities To The IC Industry?

Of the many industries, the IC industry is deemed to have the most opportunities because of the constant demand of people for gadgets and devices. In China alone, its government is encouraging the growth of the semiconductor industries by putting up certain policies that promote domestic IC design and production. Here are some IC opportunities.

  1. Recently, a cocktail dress with a built-in Bluetooth technology won in a contest in London. The dress lighted up when a call was received.
  2. The prototype of a digital eyewear was also designed recently. It contains a Heads Up Display (HUD).
  3. Google Googles. This is perhaps one of the best things that Google ever came up with. This is a downloadable application that recognizes images from a handheld device.
  4. CommBadge. This is a wearable Bluetooth communicator that is compatible with Android and iPhone.
  5. Google Glass. This is another innovation from Google wherein rich text and notifications are projected straight to the user’s eyes. With most commands activated through user voice, it has a 5MP camera that can record up to 720p.

Wearable opportunities are vast especially that people today demand something more convenient into use. And with technology growing more complex and sophisticated by the day, IC opportunities are numerous as well.
