The Use Of Intelligent Image Sensors

Tuesday,Nov 11,2014

Man’s hunger for knowledge and innovation is insatiable. That is why it continues to look for better ways to do things, which will result to more comfort and convenience, as well as to the avoidance of more complex problems and situations. Among these innovations is the use of the intelligent image sensors.

What Are Intelligent Image Sensors?

Intelligent image sensors are revolutionary in a way that they provide a better and more efficient way of collecting and processing information. This is primarily because they have the ability to adapt to the changing conditions during the act of recording the image. Thus, their performance is more optimized.

Among the fields that greatly benefit from this innovation is medicine where medical applications are made better, easier and with less impact on the patient. This is so because with intelligent image sensors, the region or area that is being targeted will be investigated most closely while the other regions, which are not as important to the study, will receive lesser radiation. In a nutshell, the most information is collected while giving the least penalty or impact on the subject.

What Are The Responsibilities Of The Intelligent Image Sensors?

Its name is called such, “intelligent”, for a reason. The first task of the sensors is to give a digital signal. Secondly, it communicates the signal and thirdly, it executes logical functions and instructions.

What Are The Elements Of Intelligent Image Sensors?

These elements include:

-          Primary sensing element

-          Excitation control

-          Amplification

-          Analogue filtering

-          Data conversion

-          Compensation

-          Digital information processing

-          Digital communication processing

Application Of Intelligent Image Sensors

Intelligent image sensors are very important especially in the world of medicine, particularly in sports medicine. In fact, during the Biomedical MEMS and Sensor 2012 conference in the Cleveland area, Louis Ross of Virtus Advanced Sensors, spoke about it.

He emphasized the importance of image sensors in the advancement of sports medicine as it helps through real time monitoring and logging of health statistics that, in turn, promotes a more personalized kind of treatment. He also said that intelligent image sensors help doctors and medical experts gather data on impact, force, motion, and temperature.

Because of the popularity of intelligent image sensors, there are already a lot of ‘multiaxis devices’ that use accelerometers and gyroscopes that make data collection even more accurate and effective.

With intelligent image sensors, it is hoped that better and more complex innovations in sensing systems will be made to make people’s lives better. For now, thanks to such studies that somehow people may have a new reason to worry less about radiation during therapy or testing.
