With the ongoing improvement of intelligent features, sensor gains increasingly wide applications, especially in the field of medical devices. The development of worldwide medical device manufacturing also poses new requirements for sensor manufacturers to meet the production application and standard as well as market demand.
In the premise of guaranteeing performance, sensor should move toward smaller size and thinner weight, which shows close relation with portable medical devices’ development. Miniature medical devices enabling easy-to-use and largely saving ward space is becoming new development trend. As such, sensor should develop toward a more integrated, smaller direction to suit the above trend of medical devices. For instance, infusion pumps and insulin pump will forgo the bulky body and develop toward portable and mobile path, and then patients can get access to more flexible application, such as choosing “home treatment”.
Miniature design also can better benefit the network and remote development of medical devices, allowing to remotely monitoring a patient's treatment and care. medical device sensor suppliers should make effort from the follow aspects as well:
1. Lower voltage and power consumption to extend battery life, which is very important to portable medical devices. Without good endurance, equipment will encounter many difficulties in application. The sensor widely adopted in medical devices need decline power consumption.
2. Emphasize sensor materials / standards. Since medical devices are special equipment, which is related to people's life and health, even needs to be close to people's blood, infectious substances, salt solution, and the gas to be detected, the sensor material should be of sufficient specification, such as complying with the EU material specification standards.
3. Sensor manufacturers must also guarantee the quality, service and support. Sensor supplier should enrich production line, launch different type, various packaging and different installation options of product to suit different medical device need. Sensor shall have a strong flexibility, enabling engineers to adjust products in accordance with application and countries’ needs. These are all the new challenge and requirements medical devices’ development brings to sensor manufacturing.
