The Change For Global Chip Industry In 2015

Monday,Jan 12,2015

Do you still remember the first cellular phones? If you were born in the 1980’s to the 1990’s, then probably you still remember the oversized and often too heavy communication equipment that not many of your friends’ parents carried around.  Compared to what we have today, you would certainly wonder how these new models are so small yet are so intuitive. The answer is the chip.

What Is A Chip?

Chip is a common word and is used for a lot of things. However, what we are talking about is related to the world of science. Chip, then, is the shorter version of microchip, which is a complex and tiny modules that is capable of storing computer memory. It also provides circuitry for microprocessors. It is the application-specific integrated chip, a special purpose chip, that is used for automobiles, devices, and phones.

Though the chip is very useful, it can be misused by criminals making you vulnerable. How? For example, your personal details may be compromised and your credit card details may be stolen.

The good news, however, is that technology enthusiasts are finding ways to make the chip better and more secure this coming 2015.

What Lies Ahead For The Chip?

You do not have to throw away your phone just because it has a chip. Here are some things that scientists are working on to make your electronic devices more secure.

  1. Use of RFID-blocking materials. Identity theft and credit card details theft have already been mentioned here. These are now growing more rampant because of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). With the RFID-blocking clothes, you can now be safe. What is done is that the materials of your clothes like jeans and blazers are mixed with a special matter that is based on silver. Thus, when you wear it, your credit cards are protected from wireless signals that come from scanners. Expect these items to be available on sale by the first quarter of 2015.
  2. Use of transmitters of biomedical information. Imagine you being an old person living alone in your house. In case of any medical emergency, how would you be able to get your information to the hospital or doctors without having to physically be there? This is now possible with the use of transmitters of biomedical information through your clothes. As described in the scientific journal called Sensors, people who are suffering from chronic diseases, as well as old people, police officers and firemen, can now use this smart fabric that is made from layers of copper, polymers, silver, and glass that enables doctors to monitor glucose levels, brain activity, heart rhythm, and others. This is possible since the material or fabric is connected to a wireless network.
  3. 3D haptic shape. What is interesting about this 3D haptic shape is that it can be seen and felt in mid-air. This technology is very useful especially in medical science wherein a surgeon can explore a CT scan and be able to feel the disease such as a tumor.

Imagine everything that science through the chip can do to your life, all the more reason to be excited for 2015.
