Japan semiconductor equipment sales exceeded 389.1 billion yen in April

Wednesday,May 29,2024

According to statistics released by the Semiconductor Equipment Association of Japan (SEAJ) on the 27th, the sales of semiconductor equipment manufactured in Japan in April 2024 (3-month moving average, including exports) was 389.106 billion yen, a year-on-year increase of 15.7%, and the fourth consecutive month of growth, setting a 17-month increase (since November 2022, a 19.1% increase).

In April, sales exceeded the 300 billion yen mark for the sixth consecutive month, surpassing the 380.929 billion yen in September 2022, rewriting the monthly record. Compared with the previous month (March 2024), it increased by 6.4%, and increased month-on-month for the sixth consecutive month.

From January to April 2024, Japan's semiconductor equipment sales reached 1,387.079 billion yen, an increase of 9.4% over the same period last year, and sales hit a record high in the same period of previous years.
It is reported that Japan's semiconductor manufacturing equipment has a global market share (converted by sales) of 30%, second only to the United States. According to the trade statistics released by the Japanese Ministry of Finance last week, Japan's exports of semiconductor manufacturing equipment to China in April increased by 95.4% year-on-year.

The report shows that thanks to the growth of automobile and semiconductor equipment exports, Japan's exports in April increased by 8.3% year-on-year to 8.9807 trillion yen (about 57 billion US dollars), marking the fifth consecutive month of export growth. Japan's exports to China in April reached 1.59 trillion yen, a year-on-year increase of 9.6%, also a record high for the same period. Among them, the export of semiconductor manufacturing equipment increased by 95.4% year-on-year, which was the driving factor for Japan's export growth in April.
