Wireless charging is a vision of electronic devices that stay powered up without wall sockets, and gadget bags minus the eternal spill of bulky cords and cables. Fueled by the distinctive advantages, wireless charging shows promising outlook which is expected to reach $7.161 billion by 2017 at a CAGR of 57.46% from 2012 to 2017.

Due to consumers and government increasing the safety awareness of vehicle, peoples’ higher experience demand as well as new energy development direction, vehicle wireless charging technology is growingly gaining traction and momentum. Earlier in 2010, Audi has introduced the concept of wireless charging in the SEMA show. Now, more companies also begin the investment in this field, including AEC, Peiker, Qualcomm and Delphi as well as NXP.

It is reported NXP will make a large foray into vehicle wireless charging market. With the help of Near Field Communication (NFC) technology standby (Standby) zero-power technology, NXP is set to develop and integrate Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), PMA (Power Matters Alliance), A4WP (All for Wireless Power) and other wireless charging standard of multi-mode wireless charging chips, to grab the shares in vehicle smartphone charging device market.

Some NXP executive said the company was very attentive to the market prospect of wireless charging in vehicle smartphone charging devices. Now, the company is accelerating developing multimode wireless charging chip solution which enables integrating NFC technology and supporting a variety of different wireless charging standards to decline the power consumption of multimode wireless charging chip, achieve the interconnection functionality between wireless charging devices and Bluetooth headset as well as to improve the end user’s ease of operation. In addition, NXP plans to design a multimode wireless charging chip solution integrating NFC technology, supporting PMA and A4WP camp.
