Revolutionizing The Industry With Actel SoC FPGAs

Wednesday,Jul 09,2014

Formerly called Microsemi, Actel Corporation is a respected brand in the electronics industry. A maker of non-volatile, low-power field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), Actel is known as a leader when it comes to quality and excellence. They also churn out some of the finest mixed signal FPGAs and programmable logic solutions.

The SoC FPGAS
Based in Mountain View, California, there are regional bases all over the globe. Actel’s strengths are hinged upon its antifuse-based FPGAs and the flash-based FPGAs. Examples of the former include the SX-A, eX, MX and Axcelerator series. Others included in the latter category are the IGLOO, Fusion and the ProASIC3 series. For the antifuse FPGAs, they are widely renowned for their non-volatile and waterproof security features.
Actel is also into development of products used in the military and aerospace engineering. These include the system-critical FPGAs like the ProASIC3 and RTAX series. These FPGAs are known for being reprogrammable and when it comes to energy consumption, they have been classified as low power. There are also the single-chip variants and they generally have live at power-up operation ability. They are very reliable and when it comes to immunity to firm errors, they are also the leading brand.
Additional Features
Apart from having the highest level of reliability, the SoC FPGAs is also known to have some other brilliant features. They all come in fantastic packages and different series. For example, the SmartFusion2 System-on-Chip FPGA has up to 150K LEs, each with 5Mbit SRAM and 4.5Mbit NVM. They also have hard 667 mbps DDR2/3 controllers, which also come with the latest SECDED.
Then there is also the 166 MHz ARM Cortex-M3 microprocessor, of the 5Gbps SERDES series. They are also PCle-equipped, XAUI/XGXS + Native SERDES variants. But that is not all. There is also the SmartFusion System-on-Chip FPGA, a very unique product as it is the only FPGA variant in the industry that comes with the hard 32-bit ARM Cortex-M3 microcontroller core. Programmable analog with analog-to-digital converter (ADC), they come with monitors for the voltage, current, and temperature. Others include comparators and the analog computer engine (ACE).
With Actel, developing more usable and affordable products, the future seems even more brighter.
