Vishay's latest mica grid resistors cost less than stainless steel devices

Tuesday,Aug 07,2018

Recently, Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. announced the launch of its new high-power, high-current mica grid resistor series, GREM, with standard resistor mounting dimensions. Vishay Milwaukee GREM resistors offer designers a lower cost option than standard stainless steel grid designs. The device uses EDG technology to maintain power supply capacity, weight and power density while maintaining package size.

The device released today has a power of 8 kW at 40 ° C, which is 23% higher than the standard 6500 W stainless steel grid resistor of the same resistor mounting size. At the same time, GREM devices are 30% lighter than the same power-dissipating stainless steel gate resistors at a competitive price. These features make the device ideal for load box, dynamic braking and motor control in low vibration industrial and new energy applications.

GREM resistors have a resistance range of 0.067 Ω to 24.273 Ω with a tolerance of ±10%; a temperature coefficient of ±130 ppm / °C and a current range from 18A to 345A. The device operates at high temperatures of +415 °C.
