Whether APPLE Company New Waterproof Patent Will Apply To The Future iPhone Devices?

Tuesday,Mar 17,2015

What could be worse than buying a new expensive phone (that just got out of the market) and then accidentally dropping it into a pail of water or into the sea? That would surely bring a ton of remorse on your part. However, what would you think if your phone was waterproof? Awesome!!!

At the moment, the only way to protect your phone from water is by putting it in a waterproof casing which can be expensive and bulky. But the good news is that, Apple is working on a new patent which is on waterproofing as revealed by the Apple Insider. In fact, the US Patent and Trademark Office has already published Apple’s new patent.

According to another source, NASDAQ:AAPL, Apple filed the patent that will research on the “methods for shielding electronic components from moisture”. In this research, the sensitive parts of the device will be protected from moisture by coating it using the vapour deposition technology. Apart from that, the solder components will be coated with silicon material (http://www.bidnessetc.com/36396-apple-inc-aapl-to-manufacture-waterproof-devices/).

The report went on to say that if successful, devices will now be like the waterproof watch. However, the target of Apple is to protect the most important parts of the device with hydrophobic coating. Among these parts are the integrated circuit chips.

If your concern is that the coating will only make the devices bulky and thicker, this will not be the case because the coating will only take up to one and ten microns thickness. Also, iPads, iPhones, and Macbooks will be installed with electromagnetic shield to ensure that they function even with the moisture protection.

The question now is if Apple will put this waterproof patent onto their iPhone devices. At the moment, the Apple Watch has been confirmed to have the waterproof feature by Apple CEO, Tim Cook. It is hoped then that the future iPhone devices will too have the waterproof feature. After all, Apple’s top competitors like Samsung and Sony have already released their own high end waterproof devices. However, at the moment, Apple has not released any statement that finalizes their decision whether to use this patent or not. It is interesting to note, though, that the illustration or diagram they are using for the patent looks like that of an iPhone. The thing is that Apple patents do not usually end up being included in the features of their phone devices (http://www.businessinsider.com/apple-waterproof-iphone-patent-2015-3). In fact, there was also another patent in the past by Apple that they never used and is kept only for their sole consumption.

Apple iPhone fans might have to wait for several more months or years to see if this new patent will be put to good use.
