The 5G Network Under Study Will Make Wifi Die Out?

Tuesday,Mar 24,2015

If we look back to the past two decades of the internet technology, so much has grown and developed. There was the use of the Lan connection and the Broadband connection. Now, there is wifi, 3G and 4G. Today, the latest in technology has come out and it is called 5G. However, do we really understand what we are using? What really are these things?

5G stands for 5th Generation Technology which means that it is the next generation of mobile data connectivity. It is this generation’s technology with the highest value because it can be used in your mobile phone. For one, it can be hooked up to your laptop to access broadband internet access. It can also be incorporated into your camera, mp3 player, video player, dialing speed, audio player, and more.

What Does It Offer?

There are many things that 5G can offer the individual user. These include:

-      It allows you to use cell phones worldwide. With 5G, you will no longer need to bring two different cell phones when you go abroad. The 5G technology lets you use one cell phone that you can take everywhere.

-      It allows you to bring your office everywhere you go. With the birth of smartphones, you can use the internet everywhere. But 5G gives you extraordinary data capabilities without your phone lagging on you. You can also handle unrestricted volumes of calls anywhere.

More specifically, 5G has these features:

  1. It has a high resolution and bi-dimensional large bandwidth shaping.
  2. It has advanced billing interfaces.
  3. It provides large data broadcasting in Gigabits and supports about 65,000 connections.
  4. Its traffic statistics is more accurate compared to that of 3G and 4G.
  5. It has remote diagnostics.
  6. It also supports Virtual Private Network.

Basically, 5G will provide users very fast broadband speeds and manage every function without any disruption.

Why Do We Need 5G?

5G enables you to do almost everything wherever you are. Now, your work will no longer be limited to your office space. We need 5G because:

-      Its latency is superb. 4G’s latency may be high too at 40ms to 60ms. But that is not enough as it does not provide real-time response. With 5G, latency is very low at 1ms to 10 ms, which means there is no space for delays.

-      Bandwidth allocation is amazing. According to pocket-lint’s website, every person in UK by 2020 will have own 27 devices. Thinking of that, there would be too much traffic in the airwaves that would cause delays and disruptions in connections. But thanks to 5G, bandwidth allocation will be done wisely.

If this 5G technology will be rolled out, it is indeed a threat to wifi. Why would you go for something that cannot support a large number of connections if there is another one that can do the job way better? Based on the information above, you can choose which one you would be better off with.
