Silylene Vs Graphene - Who Is More Important In The Future Of Electronic Components

What Are Graphene And Silylene?

According to Graphenea, Graphene is simply a thin layer of pure carbon taking the form of a single yet tightly packed layer full of carbon atoms that come together in the form of a hexagonal honeycomb lattice. On the other hand, silylene, first experimentally observed in 1964 by P.S. Skell and E.J. Goldstein, is another chemical compound that has no electrical charge but contains a divalent silicon atom. It used to be called silene but was actually a wrong notion.

Silylenes are known to be a type of chemical compound that cannot be isolated because they are unstable and considered reactive intermediates.

Graphene vs. Silylene: Which Is Which?

There has been a lot of research conducted on graphene. However, these are mostly geared towards finding out the best ways of building a transistor. In fact, a silicon wafer goes through a very long process including etching, polishing, bathing in chemicals, heating, cooling, testing and cutting before it goes to the distribution as a microprocessor. The silylene, on the other hand, is considered to come in handy in the future of electronic products because it is made of silicon that is formed into a thick single atom. However, just like the graphene, it is very difficult to prepare silylene. Even scientists have devoted eight long years to theorizing the role of silylenoids and creating silylene but their efforts have become futile.

According to Hihuadu, the application of silylenoids will be much easier compared to graphene if the scientists can overcome the difficulties. This is because of the fact that majority in the electronics industry is made from silicon-based chip design.

With that, it can be concluded that graphene is more common though it remains to be a mystery to scientists. But, silylene has the more potential in the electronics technology. It is hoped, though, that these two will be researched on more intensively together.
