SK hynix successfully developed new memory chips to increase processing speed by 50%

Sunday,Aug 18,2019

SK hynix announced on August 12 that the company has developed the industry's fastest processing new generation memory chip HBM new product "HBM2E" (see photo). HBM is the abbreviation of High Bandwidth Memory, and the data processing speed has been revolutionized compared with the traditional DRAM.

SK hynix announced on the same day that the successful HBM2E data processing speed is 50% faster than the previous specification (HBM2), and can process 460GB of data per second, which is equivalent to processing 124 HD movies (3.7GB) per second.

HBM2E's ultra-fast data processing speed can be widely applied to new technologies such as graphics processing (GPU) machine learning, supercomputers, and artificial intelligence (AI) that require high-performance data processing.

Unlike traditional DRAM, HBM attaches the semiconductor itself to the logic chip at a pitch of tens of micrometers (1 micron equals one millionth of a meter), which eliminates the need for a master and shortens the distance between the chips, thereby increasing data. Processing speed.

Quan Junxian (sound), head of SK hynix's HBM business strategy, said, "The mass production will start in 2020, which will be officially opened in the HBM2E market, and strengthen the leading position in the high-end memory chip market."
