TI’s Future Layout in Analog Devices Market

Sunday,Oct 06,2013
In 2012, Brian Crutcher replaced Gregg Lowe as the senior vice president and general manager of TI's Analog business. Usually, new leadership would bring a new plan. Then what’s the layout of the new leaders, how will he create new scene for Texas Instruments (TI)?

TI is the largest manufacturer in analog devices with global market shares of 17%, nearly doubling the second company. In recent years, it successfully turns its business center to analog and embedded processing (EP) devices which help TI see 16% growth rate. According to Brain Crutcher, there are several points for TI in the future analog market.

First: deployment of automotive and industrial segments will be the main strategy. Industrial sector has always been a large application field for analog devices, ranging from motor drive, large-size LED screen, industrial automation, to smart grid and video surveillance.

Take smart grid as example, driven by energy saving and government support, worldwide smart grid sees compound annual growth rate reaching 25%; only in China, the annual market size is $80 billion. With comprehensive BB Black as well as high-integration analog front-end product, TI has strong advantages and competitiveness.

Brain Crutcher said, renewable energy, industrial automation, medical devices as well as LED lighting industry shows greater market potential in the coming years.

In the aspect of automotive electronics, TI will focus on EV / HEV battery management and protection, battery management system (BMS) (including 8-16 battery-supportable battery group management, low-balancing functions) as well as vehicle security systems.

The third potential market will be advanced process technology, such as HV process, data converters, power supply and signal chain.

As China plays an increasingly important role in market, technological innovation, more manufacturers set their eyes in China. Brain Crutcher noted TI is expected to invest $1.59 billion in the next fifteen years to open analog market. Currently, TI has established five R & D centers with independent design capacity.
